Magadh University PhD Entrance Botany Paper-2 Syllabus

Time: 3 Hours
Full Marks: 100 Marks

This paper will consist of descriptive type of questions to be asked from the prescribed syllabus of Botany. There shall be two groups in this paper – Group and Group B wise details are given below:

Detailed Syllabus of Paper-II (GROUP A)

Phycology: Classification, General features o chlorophyta, Phaeophyta and Rhodophyta, Econom
ics importance of Algae.

Microbiology: A general account of bacteria and viruses including reproduction and economic importance. A general account of mycoplasma.

Mycology: A general account of fungi including classification and economic importance.ve
Plant Disease:

1. An account of common seed-borne and soil- borne fungal disease of the crop.
3. A general account of cultural, chemical and biological methods of control of plant disease.
4. Symptoms, etiology and control measures of common diseases of paddy, wheat and pulses of Bihar.

Bryology and Pteriodology: Salient features of Bryophyta and Pteridophyta and their origin and evolution.

1. Gymnosperm: Distribution of Gymnosperm in India.
2. General account of Gymnosperm with special reference to Cordaitales and Coniferales.

Detailed Syllabus of Paper-II (GROUP B)

Angiosperms:

• Natural and phylogenetic system of classification of Angiosperms.
• General account of modern tools of Taxonomy.
• Importance of Botanical gardens and Herbaria.
• Biodiversity and conservation.
• Salient features of the following orders/series: Ranales. Parientales, Caryopyllinae, Geraniales, Rosales, Passiflorales, ensoitin Umbellales, Rubiales, Asterales, Primulales, Gentianales, olemoniales, Personales, egnen Lamiales, Curvembryae, Multiovulatae Terrestris, Achlmydosparae, Unisexuales, Microspermae, Coronarieae, Calyciane and Glumaceae.

Ecology:

1. Phytosociological studies
2. Autoecology
3. Productivity
4. Pollution
5. Phytogeography
6. Important Ecological Research Centres of India

Cytology & Genetics:

• Ultrastructure of Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells.
• Chromosomal structure with nucleosome concept.
• Modern concept of gene in the light of recen developments.
• Techniques and significance of genetic engineering.
• Mutation and its significance.
• DNA and RNA as genetic material.
• Genetic recombination and its significance.
• Structural and numerical changes of chromosomes.

Plant Physiology and Biochemistry:

• Mechanism of Photosynthesis.
• Protein synthesis.
• Growth hormones.
• Enzymes.
• Techniques and scope of tissue culture.
• Fat synthesis.
• Mineral nutrition
• Mechanism of stomatal movements.

Magadh University PhD Entrance Botany Paper-1 Syllabus

Time: 2 Hours
Full Marks: 100 Marks
This paper will consist of questions pertaining to General Awareness of Botany. The questions will be o objective type to be asked from each of following five types. Each type will have ten (10) questions. All questions are compulsory.

NOTE:

• Multiple choice Questions
• Number of questions- 50
• Duration of Examination -2 hours
• No negative marking for wrong answers
• Examination will be on OMR sheet. Students are not allowed to take the question booklet with them.
