Patna University PAT Admit Card 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade of ‘B’ on the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade on a comparable grading system, wherever applicable).

A relaxation of 5% (i.e., from 55% to 50%) in marks or an equivalent grade will be provided to candidates belonging to the SC/ST/EBC/BC categories and to those who are Differently Abled, in accordance with prevailing government norms.

Patna University PAT 2025 Exemptions from the written Test of Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT) – 2025:

Candidates with Fellowships/Scholarships: Those who have secured research grants (fellowship/scholarship/associateship) by qualifying national-level exams such as UGC NET, CSIR NET, GATE, MHRD Fellowship, DBT, ICMR, ICAR, DST-INSPIRE, CSSIR, ICHR, etc..

University/College Teachers: Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors who are appointed on a substantive post in the UGC pay scale within the University or a constituent college, and have completed their probation successfully with at least two years of uninterrupted service. (Teachers appointed in self-finance courses are not exempted) .

University Non-Teaching Employees: Non-teaching staff of the University who hold a substantive appointment for more than five years, have at least 55% marks in their Master’s degree, and have at least two research papers published in a UGC-identified/refereed journal.

Patna University PAT 2025 Details:

Admission Test (PAT) – 2025

1. The PAT is a written test comprising two papers of 100 marks each

  • Paper I – 100 marks – objective/multiple-choice questions on general and research aptitude.
  • Paper II – 100 marks – subjective type in the subject concerned based on the syllabus (excluding elective papers) of the Post-Graduate courses of the Patna University.
  • The minimum qualifying marks for the written test will be as follows:
  • For General candidates: 50% aggregate marks.
  • For Reserved category candidates: 45% aggregate marks.
  • The applicants who have qualified for the PAT would be required to appear before an
    Interview Board.
  • The Interview is of 20 marks: It is mandatory for all, including exempted candidates, to appear before the Interview Board.

Paper I (Objective):

  • Multiple Choice type.
  • No. of Questions: 50.
  • Duration of examination: 1 hour.
  • No negative marking.
  • Examination will be conducted on an OMR sheet.
  • Students are not allowed to take out the question booklet of Paper I.

Paper II (Subjective):

  • Duration of Examination: 2 Hours.
  • Based on the syllabus (excluding elective papers) of the Post-Graduate Course of Patna University.
  • The paper is divided into three groups.

Marks Distribution (Paper II):

  • Group A: 30 marks (5×6=30).
  • Group B: 40 marks (4×10=40).
  • Group C: 30 marks (2×15=30).

Question Group Details (Paper II):

  • Group A: Total Eight short answer type questions to be set, out of which five are to be answered (expected length of each answer – 150 words approximately).
  • Group B: Total seven questions to be set, of which four are to be answered (expected length of each answer – 200 words approximately).
  • Group C: Total Four questions to be set, of which two are to be answered (expected length of each answer – 500 words approximately).

The candidates are directed to answer questions in sequential order.

Date of Entrance Test

  • Time of written Examination:
    • Paper I (objective): 1 hour.
    • Paper II (subjective): 2 hours.
  • 5. The result of PAT will be valid for three years after the declaration of the result.
  • 6. Scrutiny of the answer book shall not be allowed.
  • 7. The PAT – 2025 will be under the preview of the Rule of RTI Act, 2005.

  • Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT) of Patna University consists of two papers:
    • A. Paper-1
      : General and Research Aptitude Test.
    • B. Paper II: Subject Specific Test. Subjective type in the subject concerned based on the syllabus (excluding elective papers) of the Post-Graduate courses of the Patna University.

Paper-I: General Aptitude and Research Aptitude Test

  • All questions are with multiple choices, and each correct answer carries: 2 marks.
  • Total Marks: 100.
  • Total Questions: 50.
  • No negative marking system.
  • Duration of Entrance Exam: 1 Hour.
